I took delivery of my new Porsche Boxster from Momentum Porsche in Houston, Texas on January 24th, 2000.
The interior...
I spec'd the Sport Design Interior which included: Sport Seats with painted backs, 3 spoke Sport Steering Wheel with silver Porsche badge, special interior materials for dash and door panels, special painted interior parts among other special tid bits. Also, for the seats I selected the embossed Porsche creast. For comfort I included the CD holder in the center console, HiFi sound package, cruise control, Alarm System, Wind Stop, CD player and Porsche mats in black. The smell of a new interior is always nice...
New owner...
Four months after my order went in here I am with my new Porsche Boxster. I am now a new owner...
The ordering process...
Being 1200 miles away from my dealer at the time of ordering didn't make things easy. Porsche at the time was sporting a real piece of crap on-line configurator. Thankfully, a dealer in SoCal called Niello had a comprehensive car configurator for all Porsche models. Thanks to Niello I was able to configure my Boxster right to my specs. Working under a budget made things really difficult. First off I had to choose between a loaded Boxster with the stuff I wanted or an S with virtually no options. I went with the first option. With the model already chosen it was time to go to the desired options. First the color scheme. For the exterior I chose the racing color for Germany, Silver, for the interior I had basically no choice but black if I wanted the Sport Design Interior which included the Sport Seats otherwise I would have chosen Boxster Red, but in the end Silver with Black it was. Silver is a nice color, easy to maintain and keep things serious. The Sport Design Interior was chosen as it was the only way to obtain Sport Seats inside a Boxster at the time, the Sport Design Interior also included many other nice components like a full leather interior, special materials for the dash and door panels, 3 spoke Sport steering wheel with silver Porsche creasts and special painted interior parts.
For the convertible top I went with interior matching black but I regretted my decision upon delivery when I realized that light gray would have looked much better, but then again, black is also nice. With colors and interior out of the way it was time for the good stuff, the options.
Being more of a coupe guy than convertible my next option was logical, yes!!! you guessed it !!! Hard Top. I though the HT would give more daily driving flexibility and finally more security for track days. "17 Boxster Design wheels is almost a forced option as the meager "16s look beyond terrible and don't bring the desired performance out of the Boxster, so "17s it is. Basically that was it as I ran out of budget but I believe I managed a great configuration and it was now on its way to me.
Configuration of the right Porsche is more difficult than one might think, understanding the corresponding performance or comfort of each option is quite important to achieve the correct Porsche for you. I manage well and soon will be owner of a very nice, well spec' d new Porsche Boxster.
Only 18 miles on the odometer... nice !!!
Its ready to roll !!!
Paperwork done, paper plates on, I'm ready to roll... actually the entire process went very smoothly thanks to John Pappas my designated Porsche sales executive. John not only displayed a high grade of professionalism but he is also an enthusiast.
