The Porsche Club Puebla(PCP) started the year the only way they know how, driving a Porsche fast!!!
The PCP held its first board meeting in sunny Cocoyoc to lay out the plans for 2009. But as usual in the PCP the meet turn into a driving event where the 911 took center stage. Special guests Ramon Gellida (RG) and Manuel Campuzano (MC) brought their superbly built 911's and also their vast knowledge of the early 911, these guys are early 911 walking encyclopedias.
The day went by driving, talking and admiring these outstanding 911's...
Let's check out the action...
Wonderful Stance...
Inside you will find a plethora of details, each carefully crafted to the highest of standards... in short too much to list but it is superb believe me...
It was obvious that one of RG's favorite detail on his own creation was the custom Hockey Puck steering wheel... taking the idea from the '68 R model this custom hockey puck steering wheel is only 380mm where the original was 400mm in diameter a negligible detail for the mundane eye not yet for RG who's appreciation for detail is beyond imaginable...
Call me unwitting as the project deserves a much more carefully chosen detail or component as my favorite part, and don't get me wrong there were a thousand things I liked of this 911 yet I'm a sucker for what I call "nouveau tuning" where you put newer parts onto older cars and choosing a late 996 CDR23 radio for such retro project came to me as a strike of genius.
RG is without a doubt a very discerning Porsche enthusiast, his projects are always taken to painstaking high levels of detail... I'm not even sure if Dr. Ing Ferninand Porsche knew the potential of the 911 45+ years ago... yet with projects like this is proven that the 911's potential is well high and is thanks to enthusiast like RG that is able to reach it...
How could the day end for the Porsche Club Puebla? The only way we know how, driving a Porsche Fast!!!

On the road? SUPERB... fast, light, nimble... did I mention fast?
It was evident RG knew what he wanted for his next project, one can tell he savor it even before the RS Clone was finished as everything is done to admirable detail... imagine this project started with a gold colored early impact bumper 911 and taken into an RSR-esque piece of art... that my friends is Pure Talent...
simply astonishing from the side... looks clean and simple yet is full of details... bulging flares and wide Lindsey fuchs bring the aggressive stance, note that wheels are "16 in the front and "17 in the rear... the chrome details work seamlessly with the black... all moldings were added as this was an impact bumper 911 in its previous iteration... mirrors and handles also an add on... and list goes on... tremendous stance and style...
The rear sports a very wide stance... full metal rear flares are a work of art all hand made by RG... RS wing is a replica piece made to RG's exact standards... ferocious exhaust... wide racing tires mounted on "17 X "11 Lindsey Fuchs, wow!!!
My Favorite Detail: CDR23...
Cherry...
On the road...
Work of art...
Finally everything was accomplished... The Porsche Club Puebla lay down its 2009 plans that include Track Days as well as Touring Drives... and the day was filled with fun driving these two astonishing builds... RG and MC are truly early 911 walking encyclopedias as well as tremendous company, thanks guy for coming and showing us a bit your knowledge and you superb machines...

Attention to detail is one of RG's natural attributes... he doesn't believe in "it looks good enough from far away" everything has to look and work to astonishing perfection from every angle... a photo is worth a thousand words...
Special? very... a 993 3.6L Varioram engine was fully adapted with EFI and all... blueprinted to 320hp... an Steve Wong chip is in charge of engine management, specially done to all of RG's exact specifications... TRE took care of the exhaust which basically runs open from headers to back... we say special, I add VERY!!!
911's...
Tremendous day...
Evidently RG was looking for an admirable, exceptional stance thus the RSR route...
Original details...
I'm not sure how accurate those values are now yet every detail is down to full originality there are no gaps in this project...
What's there in the back? yet another very special 911... lets check it out!!!
This is MC's '73 E fully restored and adding some S options... this car came loaded from the factory and in very mundane silver color, MC only pulled all apart, bought every part he could new and rebuilt it to astounding perfection adding a very special shade of dark gray... for those interested in every single detail I will be writing a 600 page book pretty soon only in this one 911... or call MC directly...
Finding a superbly built aircooled 911 in places like California or England may not come to a great surprise but in Mexico is a very rare sight. Imagine not having an air cooled Porsche industry to support your fine baby. That is exactly what goes on in Mexico. During the Carrera Panamericana a few Porsche's made into Mexico, basically cars that came to the race stayed in the country. After 1954 imported sport and luxury cars were simply banned. It was until 1994 that the import laws changed and imported cars entered Mexico once again making air cooled Porsches a very rare sight in Mexico.
Black Beauty...
Fast, beautiful and black... RG's Black Beauty is an exceptional build, everything in the car is a special well thought detail...
Some History First...
Imagine a ONE OWNER 1971 Carrera picked directly from the factory... this is exactly what RG's first project is all about... he picked this beautiful Carrera from the factory back in 1971 and spent its first years in Spain mainly as a summer car... on a later note this beautiful 911 made into the USA where the project started to take shape... after 30 years it was legal for importation into Mexico and RG finally brought it in to enjoy on daily basis... the idea of this project was an RS Clone... the details are infinite...

Pure Talent...
... the gold colored donor car was picked up in the outskirts of San Francisco where after a whole day traveling and negotiating RG took route to TRE Motorsports in L.A. at 3:00 am... after a couple of days making sure the gold Carrera could make it to Mexico in one stint RG drove it into his headquarters in Mexico City... 5 seconds upon arrival and after 3 days of driving RG started to take the gold colored Carrera apart... 48 hrs later the stripped early impact bumper Carrera was sporting some new wide body rear fenders all carefully hand worked in full metal... no bondo here, full metal!!! all hand work!!! The front presented a challenge too, as the wide front fenders were added and the impact bumpers were taken off there was a gap to be filled... the easy route is early parking lights but RG decided to go the difficult route and use the '67-'68 R air scoops that were added with very clever hand work... the long hood also presented a problem at the latch, the easy route here is to adapt the latch on a further part of the hood but RG decided to better modify the entire tub to have the latch at the correct long hood position... want more front end complications? Chosen as the front bumper was an IROC/RSR clone from TRE yet the larger radiator presented a fitting problem, the easy route here is to cut the tub and indent the radiator but RG said no, I won't have a cut-weld that looked so obvious to the eye, so he completely redesigned the front bumper to have everything fitted flawlessly... more? How about a "center field" gas cap? TRE worked hard on this one, taking the idea from the R model the whole thing was custom build to fit, work and look wonderful... jeeeezzz we can go on and on and write a book just on the front end... rather I let you look at some of the details including the light weight RS front hood badge/sticker or the Lindsey Fuchs in very wide width... click the thumbs...

The road test was much more than taking the cars around the block, we went for a 3+ hour open road test drive were we found the RSR clone to be as fast if not a little bit faster than the current 997 Carrera S and the 2.4L '73 E able to keep up with this fast duo...
