The Porsche World Road Show is an event meant for prospects as well as customers where they get the chance to drive the entire Porsche lineup at full capacity. Combined with a luxury ambiance and a state of the art facilty the PWRS proves to be an experience like no other.
The day starts very early in the morning and it is full of driving, lets see how the day goes at the Porsche World Road Show...
A breath taking welcome. Upon arrival and walking to the hospitality tent you encounter 30 brand new Porsche cars lined up. After registration, gourmet breakfast and initial instruction, the driving begins...
Slalom
Porsche prepared a complex auto-X track for the Slalom competition where times were taken to determine the fastest driver of the day. Drivers skills are tested to the fullest as well as the handling of the cars, in this case a 987 Boxster S. The Porsche 987 Boxster S proved to be the ideal vehicle for the test due to its exemplary handling characteristics. The slalom proved to be a lot of fun with drivers well under pressure due to timing and complex course. Also fun proved to be the 987 Boxster with its al fresco driving characteristics, tremendous handling and engine power.
Track
At the long track, top speed and hard braking were tested as well as handling characteristics of the different models provided by Porsche. The track included intricate turns as well as long sweepers that proved drivers skills to the fullest. To learn the track the 987 Boxster proved to be ideal due to its neutral handling characteristics. Then, the 500 hp Cayenne Turbo proved to be fun due to its exhilarating acceleration. Finally the 997 Carrera S proved to be a delight on the long track due to its driving involvement. Lap after lap drivers gained speed as well as skills.
Moose Test
The Moose Test demostrated the virtues of the PSM system. Without it, its quite easy to loose control of the car, nonetheless with the PSM on, the car always remains under control of the driver. And despite instructors not liking us spining like crazy when the PSM remained off, it was the very best part of this particular test. I ask, when are you going to spin a $120,000.00 USD Carrera 4S Cabriolet ever again if not here? Exactly. The Moose test proved drivers skills as well as Porsche's technological advancements as far as traction controls but most important its endurance as this particualr Carrera 4S Cabriolet did this test day after day needing nothing else but tires, amazing I might add.
Off Road
With the introduction of the Cayenne things were taken off the road and new territories had to be explored as well as new driving techniques learned. The Cayenne proved to be the most capable SUV on the track but Porsche also showed the Cayenne in its element, off the road. For this test Porsche provided an army of Cayennes that included from the base V6 to fully loaded by Exclusive Turbos. Pegaso's wonderful off road complex along with special instruction brought new terms to be learned by participants. Apex was exchanged by angle of attack, suspensions went up instead of down, thumbs should be kept on top of the rim of the steering wheel and seat belts were taken off in deep waters. In the end the Porsche Cayenne excelled with its tremendous off road capabilities, power and state of the art electronic aids such as hill descent control which is amazing how it works. More than one participant left in awe of the Cayenne's capabilities.
Road Test
Here is where Porsche really pushes the limits because testing their cars under controlled conditions is ok, but letting us taking them into the Mexican traffic is simply nuts. But they did, and, gave us a bunch of models to choose from, Cayman S, Boxster and various Carreras in many configurations including Carrera 4 and Cabrio. Thankfully our very good friend Rodrigo was in charge of this very test and let us floor it various times during the test. Porsche vehicles withstanded the harsh Mexican roads without a problem an important purchasing factor for our country. Fast, reliable and enduring are some of the attributes of the Porsche vehicles.
Hot Laps
Instructors called it "revenge time" because now they get to drive and we get to ride. Scary at times but mostly fun, riding a Porsche sideways during the turns and hitting top speed on the straights sure is an experience. Top drivers showed us the full capabilities of the Porsche vehicles including the amazing Cayenne Turbo that carried 5 people sideways keeping up with the Carreras.
An award ceremony end the activities of the the day where the fastest and best drivers receive a Porsche Trophy and all participants receive their PWRS certification. A very emotive part of the event. After that is time to go home...
